Meeting at Van Airport at 10:00 a.m. Depart for the Kapıköy border crossing with our waiting vehicle. After passport and customs procedures at the Kapıköy border crossing, we cross into Iran. We meet our waiting vehicle and guide and begin our Iran tour, a city with one of the world's most deeply rooted histories, a city whose magnificent geography and social life will captivate us. Our first stop will be the city of Khoy. This city is the closest settlement to the Kapıköy border crossing in Iran and has provincial status, and we'll have free time for lunch. Later, we arrive in Tabriz, chosen as the capital of the Safavid Empire by Shah Ismail, who fought against the Ottoman Sultan Selim I in the Battle of Chaldiran in 1514. In Tabriz, one of Iran's largest cities and the provincial capital, we visit the Shahriyar House and covered markets. In the evening, we enjoy a pleasant time at the complex, which was called Shah Lake during the Shah's reign and later renamed El Lake. Dinner and overnight stay in Tabriz.
After breakfast at the hotel, we transfer to the airport and fly to Tehran, the capital of the Islamic Republic of Iran, on the Tabriz-Tehran flight. Our tour of Tehran, Iran's largest and most populous city, begins with the Gulistan Palace and Bazaar, a masterpiece of architecture and handicrafts, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where the deep-rooted Persian culture merges with Western techniques and architecture. Then, free time for lunch. We continue with visits to the Tomb of Toghrol (Tughrul Bey), considered the founder of the Seljuks and located in Rey. We visit the Royal Jewels Museum and, if open, the Carpet Museum. We can take a night walk in Tehran and visit venues recommended by our guide where we can listen to music. Accommodation and dinner in Tehran.
After breakfast, we check out of the hotel and then head to Kashan. Many travelers to Iran choose Kashan as a transit destination between Tehran, Isfahan, and Yazd. In this city, which will remind us of Iran during the Persian Empire, we visit the Shrine of Fatima Masumeh, a descendant of Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq, founder of the Shia Ja'fari sect, one of the 12 imams. We also visit the Tabatabee House and the Kashan Fin Garden, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We also visit a garden designed in honor of Shah Abbas, filled with turquoise pools with flowing water, 500-year-old cedar trees, and orange trees that smell of orange blossoms when they bloom. After visiting the Mir Ahmad Baths, we travel to Isfahan, where we will visit the Khajoo Bridge and stay overnight. Accommodation and dinner are in Isfahan.
After breakfast, we will spend the day exploring Isfahan. Isfahan is one of Iran's crossroads and one of the world's largest cities. The city flourished between 1050 and 1722, especially under the Safavids in the 16th century, when it became the capital for the second time in history. Even today, it retains its former splendor. The city is renowned for its Islamic architecture, with its many beautiful boulevards, bridges, palaces, mosques, and minarets. It is the largest square in Iran and Southwest Asia. The square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is surrounded by historical structures such as the Ali Gate, Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque, and Shah Mosque, all dating from the Safavid period of the Turkic dynasties of Iran. We continue our tour by shopping for carpets, spices, and jewelry at the Grand Bazaar. We conclude the day with a visit to the Qazi Hammam. Accommodation and dinner in Isfahan.
After breakfast, we head towards Yazd, where Maybod, home to important pre-Islamic artifacts, is awaiting inscription on the World Heritage List. The Zoroastrian fire temple is one of the oldest structures of the Zoroastrian faith. We visit the ruins of the old city, the Tower of Silence, and the Jame Mosque and Amirchakhmaq complex before moving on to Yazd. After an evening stroll through the desert near Yazd, we have dinner and overnight in Yazd.
After breakfast, we check out of the hotel and begin our journey to Shiraz. We visit the Temple of Cyrus in Passargad. Then, we visit Persepolis, one of the world's largest archaeological sites, founded by the great Persian emperor Darius. The palace complex, columns, and reliefs in this ancient city, which served as the capital of the Persian Empire until 331 BC, when Alexander the Great defeated the Persians, will captivate you. We then visit the ancient cemetery of Naqsh-e Rustam and the rock reliefs thought to depict Rustam, the greatest hero of Persian mythology. We travel to Shiraz and stay overnight. Accommodation and dinner are in Shiraz.
After breakfast, we begin our city tour with the Nizam al-Mulk Mosque, known as the Pink Mosque due to its colorful interior tiles, built in the 19th century. We visit the Karim Khan Citadel with its 14 mighty towers. The site, open to the public as a historical landscape garden, is a World Heritage Site. Among the places we will visit are the Eram Garden and Vakil Bazaar, protected by the Iran Cultural Heritage Organization. We conclude the day with a visit to the tomb of the great Persian poet Hafez. Overnight and dinner in Shiraz.
